In my previous article, I advised you to stay at home and even directed you to an earlier article that would give you tips on what to do. But, I felt guilty because that article did not share so much on the activities that can take you and your family through this self-quarantine period. But here I am with a few tips. This is solely based on the things that I do on a daily basis.
I love reading. Over the years, I have learned so much from reading different books. During the lockdown, I have embraced reading to increase my knowledge base. I acknowledge that it can be boring but once you dig in, books become the best solution to idle time. The only thing that can save us from being rendered obsolete in our respective career fields is being relevant. what better way to learn more than through reading books?
Most of us with demanding jobs sleep very few hours during our typical working week. Hypothetically, this is our break and we definitely could use one in the first quarter of the year. It’s different because we are in quarantine but it wouldn’t hurt to push your books or laptop away and enjoy long hours of sleep. Well, you deserve or need it.
When was the last time you enjoyed watching a TV Show or a documentary with your family? Probably never right? Now you have your chance friend. You are at home with your family and or friends. Why not utilize this time to enjoy a TV Show or even learn something from a documentary. There are many shows and documentaries available online waiting for you to grab bag popcorns and catch up. Ask yourself, why not 🤷♂️?
This is a personal favorite. I can stream all day and probably all night with no apologies to the internet, well, I pay for it, right 😅? There are tons of shows and movies waiting for you on Netflix. They are categorized in genres so identifying what suits you will not be much of a challenge. But you will have to pay for a monthly subscription. I use the basic monthly package of roughly $9 per month and it works perfectly for me but here are their packages.
This platform is underrated. It has the best of everything in video form ranging from entertainment to education etcetera. Here are some facts; At least 5 billion videos are watched on youtube every day. Yeah right, 5 billion. With 1.3 billion users, this platform has so much content that you can only dream of exhausting it.
Enough about the intriguing or boring facts 😅, there are so many things you can do on the platform. You can watch videos to entertain yourself all day and night or you can choose to learn. Mind you, 70% of my skills including programming, digital marketing, blogging, and academic writing etcetera are courtesy of youtube. The choice is yours.
There are a few games that you can play at home with your family and friends. You can do this to pass time or challenges each other. Choose what works for you and get on with it. Here are a few of my choices;
The game of strategists and master planners. I love this game. Well, a few of my friends challenge me once in a while and I have to admit, they are really good at it. Try it out some time. Actually do that now while you’re in self-quarantine. Download it on any store and play it on your phone or play it online on your computer. Here is a video explaining to you the basics.
A friend taught me this game a few weeks ago and I have to admit, it’s really awesome. It not only helps you pass time especially now that you are at home but also allows you to test the grammatical skills of your opponents. Unlike Chess, which I would consider being a little bit advanced for children, Scramble is a perfect choice for all your friends or members of your family. I can’t wait for my son to be of age so I can teach him scramble. But, meanwhile, I play it with my buddies every time we meet up. Here is a short introductory video on how to play Scramble.
I don’t have to say much about this one, every millennial knows about it. I’m not very good at it and I don’t mind getting my @ss kicked every once in a while. But it’s a good sport to pass time for me and my buddies. Here is a peek (you might want to fast forward).
There are so many activities you can use to spend quality time with your family and friends. It’s up to you to choose what works for you and get on with it. The following tips have worked for me and I hope they work for you too. Kindly share, in the comments section, what you are doing to avoid boredom during this quarantine period. What is your experience? We would love to know.
